For my project, I will be utilizing a wide variety of digital tools!

The website creation platform that I will be using for my project is ARCGIS StoryMaps. I chose this platform because my project will feature a couple maps and will center heavily on media and visualizations, which will integrate best with this platform. Additionally, I love the continuous, narrative layout of the platform and have taken a lot of inspiration from past DSSRF projects that used this platform.

Digital Tools:

  • ARCGIS Online: With its integration, usability, and versatility as a map-making tool, I will definitely be utilizing this tool. Using ARCGIS, I will be able to visualize answers to research questions like: How has the spread of Buryats/their borders changed? Where is the Buryat language spoken?
  • Timeline JS: Using this tool, I will be able to make simple, accessible, and engaging timelines that can showcase Buryat history, Soviet language laws, and the UNESCO endangered language status.
  • Datawrapper: With this easy-to-use, interactive data visualization tool, I will be able to quickly make graphs showcasing how Buryat language usage has changed over time, as well as urbanization trends and population changes.
