Hello! I am so excited to be a DSSR 2025 Fellow, and this opportunity is one I will keep being grateful for as our summer progresses 🙂
What drew me into this program was the possibility of integrating digital tools with humanities disciplines. As a CS and Literature double-major, that intersection of technical and creative resonated a lot with me. Coming into this program, I hope to create a digital artifact that builds on an indepdent study I conducted this spring, which I titled Regional Variations in Media and Literary Depictions of Mexican Femicide.
My project is a website that compiles literature about femicide (the systematic murder towards women), with the hopes to map how different regions across the country document this phenomenon. My project interrogates the idea that regions are shaped by their demographics and regional politics, and that those areas influence the storytelling around femicide.
Through this fellowship I hope to build lasting professional relationships with mentors and classmates, expand my knowledge on digital tools, and create a tangible artifact that can educate anyone (lay person or scholar) on the epidemic of femicide in Mexico.
